DAY OUT: The Garden Show at Stansted Park

THERE’S no need to battle with the crowds of Hampton Court and Chelsea flower shows, when there’s a show closer to home extolling the virtues of gardening.

Seventeen years ago, The Garden Show at Stansted Park was launched to create a forum for innovative businesses.

Now more than 16,000 visitors return each year to enjoy the show and see what’s on offer from more than 300 specialist nurseries, garden designers and suppliers, artists, food and wine producers and therapists.

For both novices and seasoned gardeners, the Plant Doctor will be on hand to impart top gardening tips; a new area will encourage everyone to live and garden in a more sustainable way; and there will be workshops on inspirational floral design, compost sculptures and the use and efficacy of garden herbs.

The show will be held in the grounds at Stansted Park, near Rowlands Castle in Hampshire, with its gardens, house and chapel on view, while, for children, there is a model railway, magicians, and the new maze.

The Garden Show runs this weekend (June 10 to 12) and is open 10am to 5pm daily.

Admission costs £8 for adults, £6 concessions and £24 for a family ticket.
