A Star Is Born (the latest version) is a superb film. Definitely in my top five all-time faves. We’ve got the DVD at home. We’ve watched it at least a dozen times.

But if you want to make a great film even greater, give it the drive-in movie treatment.

It’s perverse really that sitting watching it in your car in a car park should beat sitting curled up at home with the cat on your lap, but it really does.

But then again, that’s the whole point of our nation’s newest rediscovery: drive-in cinema is all about the experience.

And Luna Drive In Cinema know precisely how to make that experience count.

You are greeted with maximum efficiency and friendliness for that rarest of things right now: a night out.

And with a special sound set which you put on your dashboard, there’s no need to worry about having to run down your battery. Instead, Luna style, the sound reaches you perfectly.

And then, of course, there’s the icing on the cake: the film itself.

Drive-in clearly isn’t about relishing the joy of new discovery; it’s all about wallowing in the comfort of films you already know you love.

And what fabulous performances Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper give in A Star Is Born, the former Ally a star in the ascendant, the latter Jack a star on the wane.

The result is heart wrenching. Losing his hearing, losing his way, addled by drink and confused by booze, Jack recognises a remarkable talent in Ally – and he’s in precisely the position to enable her to soar. But at what cost to himself.

It’s difficult to think of a more engrossing, more poignant, more beautiful film in recent years. And the music. Wow, just brilliant. And how great it was to watch A Star Is Born under the stars.

One minor quibble. The Luna screen comes with big illuminated logos above and below the viewing area. They are distracting. Surely for the duration of the film they really ought to be

switched off.

But otherwise, this is drive-in cinema expertly delivered – and with a wonderful film to kick off the season’s opening weekend.

A wide range of films remain to be savoured over the coming weeks. Check out the programme here: https://www.lunadriveincinema.com/goodwood-motor-circuit
