Hastings & District Association of Wrens

THE chairman was pleased to welcome a new member when she opened our November meeting.

She then told us of the arrangements for the Christmas lunch and reminded us to bring good raffle prizes and small gifts for the bran tub.

After an early tea break we had a most entertaining talk entitled Ditty Box; Naval Yarns by a former Naval Officer. Commander Roger Payne (who had brought his own old ditty box with him) had joined as a boy of 16, and served for 28 years in a variety of craft from submarines to aircraft carriers. He kept us enthralled for the rest of the meeting with his tales of amusing and interesting incidents which he had experienced during his naval career.

All too soon it was time for the raffle to be drawn, and the meeting to close.

We shall meet again in February and be very glad to welcome some more ex-Wrens to join us then.
