REVIEW: Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench, Connaught Theatre, Worthing

But when I enjoyed the show at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, on Tuesday, June 28, I found it was actually the ending that needed livening up.

In fact, at the start, there were laughs almost from the word go, with some very clever and amusing lines played out by an all-star cast featuring five much-loved actresses.

Anne Charleston, Lorraine Chase, Anita Harris and Shirley Anne Field were all wonderful in the group of elderly friends meeting in New York City, but it was Nicola Blackman who stole the show for me, especially when she performed a fabulous jazz number at the end of the first half.

It’s light and gentle, with some great lines, and the five ladies blend together very well, each with a different story to tell and a different trouble to solve.

The only downside to the whole evening was the heat of the theatre, which was unbearable, meaning all we wanted to do by the end was go home, unfortunately.

Despite that, this is a great chance to see some fine actresses in an enjoyable comedy that is well staged with good scenery.
