The Expendables 3 (12A) stars Sylvester Stallone as usual with his sidekick played by Jason Statham. However, add Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes Dolph Lundgren, Kelsey Grammer, Antonio Banderas (some of whom have already appeared in the first two films) and you have a who’s who of action actors.

In between the death and maiming there’s usually a plot and this one has Barney (Stallone) and his gang fighting arms trader (Gibson) and his gang.

With more than a nod to the Mad Max franchise, The Rover (15) stars Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson.

The film is set ten years after a worldwide global collapse with Pearce tracking the men who stole his only possession, his car.

Every now and again Simon Pegg comes up with a movie that is quite low-key and far from the block-busters he is better know for - A Fantastic Fear of Everything and Burke and Hare are good examples.

Now we have Hector and the Search for Happiness (12A). Pegg plays a psychiatrist who sets off around the world to find the secret of happiness. Whether he does and whether the audience cares remains to to be seen.

The Congress (15) is one of the most unusual films of the year. Robin Wright plays herself.. sort of. Her ‘character’ is an ageing out of work actress (which she clearly isn’t) who accepts one last job - to have a digital likeness of herself preserved for a future Hollywood.

The trailer looks distinctly strange, but with a supporting cast of Harvey Keitel, Jon Hamm, Paul Giamatti and Kodi Smit-McPhee you’d hope for something rather special.

Every year there are top quality documentaries made that make their way to the big screen.

Dinosaur 13 (PG) looks like it could be one of the better ones this year.

It’s not often the world of paleontology raises great interest, but in 1990 the largest, most complete T-Rex was found. This film follows the drama and conflict as the scientists discover that finding the dinosaur sets a dramatic ball rolling.

It’s still school holidays, so we have The Unbeatables (U) for a younger audience. Rupert Grint and Rob Brydon add their voices to this movie that follows the fortunes of a Foosball team.

We Gotta Get Out Of This Place (15) has a young cast in what is a tense drama as Texas teenagers attempt to escape their low-key existence in a Texas town but fall into trouble with organised crime.

Blood Ties (15) stars Clive Owen and Billy Crudup as brothers, each of whom has followed a very different path, one into crime and the other a cop. After one has a spell in prison, their paths cross with inevitable drama.
