This week’s film releases (August 22)

There are quite a few films hitting the big screen this week though you might struggle to find a screening of some of them.

Lucy (15), however, is bound to be on a screen near you as it has already been lauded by critics and ticks several boxes (the most important being that it will make money).

For a start it stars Scarlett Johansson who plays a woman caught up in a drugs deal. However, she manages to ingest some of the new synthetic which turns her into some sort of warrior, able to do all manner of fancy stuff.

Sci-fi movies tend to do well at the box office and with famed director Luc Besson in charge and Morgan Freeman co-starring it should be worth a watch.

Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe stars in What If (15). We’ll ignore the lack of a question mark and move to the storyline.

Radcliffe is Wallace, a man who is hopeless at relationships until he meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan) and sparks fly. However, she already has a boyfriend so he decides she can only be a good friend...

Ever wanted to get close up to a tornado? Well, Into the Storm (12A) apparently is pretty darn close.

British actor Richard Armitage leads the way as storm trackers and a variety of normal people encounter tough weather conditions.

No prizes for guessing what genre of movie Deliver Us From Evil (15) is! Eric Bana is a New York policeman who joins up with a priest to deal out exorcisms as the city is gripped by evil.

I fancy Two Days One Night (15) may sail past with very few people noticing.

However, it deserves flagging up as it stars the excellent Marion Cotillard as a worker who has to convince her colleagues to give up their bonuses so she can carry on working.

God Help the Girl (15) is set in Glasgow and sees Emily Browning play a girl in hospital who starts writing songs to help get better.

This new skill leads her to discover a new way of life over the course of one summer.

The Guvnors (15) is a tough thriller set around South-East London where gangs fight for survival.

If you ever wondered whatever happened to 1970s pop star David Essex - he’s in this movie.
