Listeners and radio insiders are worried that the changes could herald the death of the existing format they know and love and have taken to social media to insist that Bauer Media take heed of their concerns.

Chichester’s MP, Gillian Keegan, is fighting to save local radio station Spirit FM. The MP has written to the Managing Director of Bauer, the owners of Spirit, asking them to reconsider their plans to make Spirit FM into a Greatist Hits Radio Station. Gillian has also written to her Government colleague, John Whittingdale as the Minister responsible for Media asking for his support.

In a statement Mrs Keegan said: "Spirit FM has been serving the people of Chichester and the wider area for nearly a quarter of a century. It is an invaluable service that offers local news, entertainment and information.

"As an MP I have gotten to know the brilliant team there very well. Spirit FM does so much for our community as well as raising funds for charities and individuals who need support. Last year their ‘Tonne of Tins’ campaign pulled in five and a half tonnes of donations to local food banks.
