Midhurst businesses encouraged to take part in late-night shopping event
Businesses in Midhurst are being encouraged to open for shoppers during a late-night shopping event.
'To help make the most of the limited time left before Christmas', Midhurst Town Team CIC wants 'as many businesses as possible' to join in with Thursday late night shopping events starting this week (December 3).
A spokesperson said: "Participating businesses will be open until 8pm, which means you can enjoy a leisurely shop after work and avoid the busier times during the day.
"With cafés, restaurants and pubs open again, you can always finish off with a heavenly meal out — let’s face it we’re all fed up with eating in!"
The charity, Midhurst Town Team, said the second lockdown during November 'could not have come at a worse time' for small businesses.
Karin Dunbar, from West Street gift shop Stuff & Co, said: "For businesses like mine that are deemed 'non-essential', November and December are crucial months, as it's the one time of year people want and need to buy gifts and decorations.
"In a normal year we would take 40 per cent of our revenue in these two months alone, so this recent lockdown has been particularly difficult as none of that loss is reflected in government support.
“We need the three weeks up to Christmas to be good, but at the same time need to discourage too many people shopping at once — it's a difficult balance. That is why many of
us are opening seven days a week and staying open late every Thursday evening until Christmas Eve."
Karin said the shop will also continue with Click and Collect and free local delivery 'for those unable to leave their homes'.
'To make things look even more festive this year', a number of businesses will also be displaying 'some amazing giant baubles'.
"Combined with the Christmas trees and new lights it’s hard not to get a bit excited," the spokesperson for Midhurst Town Team said.
"So please, continue to support our wonderful local shops, shop a little less on-line and enjoy the great community Christmas spirit in Midhurst."
