The Black Cat Tea Room, in Meads Street, closed in July due to the pandemic but now the cafe is back open for business.

The cafe was very popular over the 12 years it was open and new owners Jonathan Albright and Kate Kaczorowska are happy to open the eatery in their local village.

Mr Albright said, “We live in Meads, I am from Meads, I have lived there for 35 years and we felt that the village needed a place where the community could sit down and have a cup of tea or coffee and a bite to eat.”

The couple, who also run Hudsons Fine Food on Compton Street, are keen to promote local produce through their cafe.

Mr Albright said, “What we really want is for everything to be local, local, local from the honey, to the marmalade, to the cakes, to the vegetables, to the fruit, even the coffee. The closest we can get that is Brighton.

“It is what we always wanted to do anyway. We feel that there is a lot of local produce out there that people haven’t been making the most of for many years.”

Although the cafe is excited about welcoming back customers they want to make sure that everybody is safe.

Mr Albright said, “First and foremost it has to be safe for everybody before anybody can sit inside and enjoy the cafe as it was enjoyed not so long ago but at the moment we are just doing takeaways.”

The cafe is open for takeaways from 8am to 4pm every day of the week.
