‘Fantastic evening’ at Midhurst and Petworth’s Rotary Schools Music Festival
Attendees enjoyed a ‘fantastic’ evening of entertainment as pupils from six local schools took part in the annual Rotary Schools Music festival.
The event was organised by the Midhurst and Petworth Rotary Club and Midhurst Primary Music Teacher Rhian Parry, who was presented with gifts in praise of her involvement with the event for the last 30 years ahead of her retirement in July.
Among the performances were Midhurst Primary School Choir’s renditions of Make your Own Kind of Music and California Dreamin’.
Midhurst Rother College Jazz Group played ‘The Girl from Ipanema’, while Stedham Primary School Choir sang a Medley from the Lion King.
Midhurst Musical Mayhem played ‘Any Dream Will Do’ and the Petworth Primary School Choir sang ‘Breakaway’ and ‘Count on Me’.
Easebourne Primary School followed with ‘Higher and Higher’ and ‘Stereo Hearts’.
Harting Primary School provided 23 young violinists who performed ‘Show Time’ and ‘Reed’.
Rotary President Peter Nightingale said it was ‘a fantastic evening for both performers and the audience’ and thanked the pupils and teachers for their hard work.
“None of this would happen without the dedication of the music teachers at all the schools led by Rhian,” he said.
Each participating school received a donation towards their music departments – which was made possible by sponsors MacDonald Oates, Goodale Mardle, Rotherhill Nurseries, Henry Adams, Cowdray, Roger Poat and Partners, Hays Travel, BUPA, Aylings and Fitzcanes.
