GCSE students at The Regis School match its best results

The percentage of pupils at the school in Bognor Regis who acheived at least 5 A*-C grades, including English and maths, remained steady at 46 per cent.

But the school’s teachers expect this to rise after appeals on a number of students who were within two marks of a C grade in core subjects.

Principal Mike Garlick said: “I congratulate all students and staff on results achieved this year which match the best in the school’s history of the previous year.

“This is particularly pleasing when we recognise the significant increase in challenge set by exam boards in many subject areas.”

The students who received their results today, Thursday, August 20, were the first to spend their entire secondary education in the Westloats Lane school after it replaced the Bognor Regis Community Centre next door.

The high achieving students, all aged 16, included Molly Double. She gained 4A* grades in biology, chemistry, physics and textiles and 5A grades in maths, French, history, English literature and English language.

She said: “I’m over the moon with my results. I worked hard and it was my aim to get results like this. But they feel a lot more real now they are in the envelope.

“I really love the school. I’ve enjoyed being here.”

She is staying on in its sixth form to study biology, chemistry, maths and textiles on her way to a potential career in biochemistry.

Connor Gormley gained 3A, 3A, 2B and a C grade. He said: “I’m ecstatic and speechless about my exam results. I worked hard for these results but was unsure what to expect.

“I intend to stay at the school for the sixth form to study English literature, history, government politics and sociology.”

Kurtis Buck gained one A* in maths, 4A grades in chemistry, physics, English language and history and 4B grades. He said: “I’m really pleased with the results overall. I’m staying here in the sixth form to study maths, further maths, physics and chemistry and I’m looking at working in the space industry.

“The school is really nice. It’s got good facilities.”

Other students highlighted by the school were Bethany Terris (5A*, 3A and 1C grades), Megan Sheridan (2A* and 7A grades), Carley Greenwood (6A, 2B and 1C grade), Ryan Spray (3A*, 3A and 3B grades), Sania Chowdhury (1A*, 5A, 1B and 1C grade), Julia Malinowska (2A*, 3A, 1B and 1C grade as well as an AS in German) and Sam Haddaway (5A and 3B grades).

The percentage of students at the school who achieved at least a C grade in English has risen 13 per cent in the past three years.

The gap between boys and girls narrowed significantly in 5A*-C grades including English and maths to five per cent, which was one of the school’s priorities.
