Midhurst Primary underwent a two-day inspection in July and the findings of Elizabeth Bowes and Kevin Parfoot were published on September 17.

Giving the school a ‘good’ rating, their report stated: “This is an improving school. Under the leadership of the new headteacher, progress has improved and attainment at the end of Key Stage 2 has also increased.”

The quality of teaching, the behaviour of the children and the knowledge and support provided by the school governors were all highlighted as ‘good’.

The report added: “The headteacher has a clear vision for the continued development of the school. Good behaviour flourishes and there is strong leadership of teaching.”

During their inspection, Ms Bowes and Mr Parfoot observed 13 lessons, held meetings with pupils and staff and read 45 online questionnaires completed by parents. When it came to future improvements, they said the quality of teaching needed to be raised to outstanding “so that more pupils make excellent progress”.

They also said progress at the school was sometimes limited because teachers did not always have the highest expectations of the pupils or set sufficiently challenging work.
