“Having a fall can not only cause injury but can be hard to recover from mentally, due to fears it may happen again, and cause a loss of independence or hospitalisation.

“Exercise and keeping active has been identified as a key factor in reducing risk and this course has been designed by experts in the field to build balance and strength, which can make a fall a lot less likely - and really help to boost confidence.”

The course costs 50p per session and is appropriate for anyone who has experienced a fall, feels a little unsteady on their feet or is worried about having a fall.

Developed by qualified postural stability and falls prevention instructors, it offers home support packs, practical advice and one-to-one strength and balance assessments.

Locally-based classes will be available when government covid restrictions allow but in the meantime, the course can be accessed online, with telephone advice.

The service also offers support options, including virtual coffee mornings.

The service is commissioned by Arun Wellbeing, which is funded by West Sussex County Council and West Sussex Public Health in partnership with Arun District Council to support adults in the district.
