Celebrating 175 years at Lancing Railway Station

Keep Lancing Lovely is celebrating the 175th anniversary of Lancing railway station with an exhibition of old photographs. The community group has been working hard to keep the station looking lovely, including a flower bed with brightly-painted bicycle. The community group has been Lancing station’s official partner since 2017, meaning volunteers take time to look after the station for the benefit of passengers.

Andrew Brook, chairman of Keep Lancing Lovely, said: “Lancing Railway Station was 175 years old in November. We would have had a party there but COVID rules said no. So, we bought a couple of banners to mark this significant event.”

The station was decorated with poppies in memory of those who worked at the station or at Lancing Carriage Works and lost their lives during the two world wars.

A plaque was made by Men in Sheds Lancing and Sompting and presented by shed manager Frank King.
