Haven, one of the UK's biggest holiday park chains, has unveiled plans on how it will be keeping holidaymakers safe once they re-open.

Campsites and caravan parks in England will be permitted to re-open from July 4, but holidays won't be quite the same as before.

Strict hygiene and safety measures will be in place at sites to keep the risk of coronavirus transmission as minimal as possible between staff and campers.

Some sites have complained that the government has not provided enough guidance on what measures to put in place to comply with social distancing and hygiene guidelines.

Martin Smith, owner of Campsites.co.uk, told The Express newspaper:

“Campsite owners don’t know if shower facilities are safe to open and what provisions they must put in place to protect their customers.

"They need clear and definitive Government advice to open safely this summer".

However, popular holiday park chain Haven has now given some insight into the policies they'll be implementing at their parks across the UK.

One of the biggest potential concerns at holiday parks is the shared toilet and shower facilities on-site, which could pose risk of transmission between guests.

Gerard Tempest, director of guest and proposition for Haven, told The Sun Online that the chain will be operating their toilet and shower facilities in a different way:

“Right now we are working on plans to have them manned from 7am to 7pm, with staff cleaning each shower cubicle and toilet between each use with anti-viral cleaning products,” he said.

The facilities will remain open once staff have clocked off for the day, however, then it will be the responsibility of guests to keep one another safe.

“After that, we will still keep the facilities open but have sanitising wipes available for guests to clean the facilities themselves,” he added.

The chain has also implemented a “Haven Caravan Cleanliness Guarantee” (HCCG) to assure customers that their stay will be safe and clean.

Other measures to be introduced include a set arrival time to ensure minimal contact with other guests, and caravans being sealed to show they've been cleaned to the highest standards.

Cleaning teams will also be kitted out in PPE.

One-way systems around the parks will be in place, as well as signage to help guests to adhere to social distancing.

Mr Tempest also told the Sun:

“In light of the Coronavirus challenges we are all facing, our new Clean and Safe Charter has been designed to ensure we are protecting our guests in these uncertain times, providing reassurance that all public areas and private caravans will be scrupulously clean while adopting social distancing guidelines in all public areas".
