50,000 more visits to leisure centre

You're a healthy lot out there - local residents have visited Bexhill Leisure Centre 50,000 more times this year.

Paul Norris, manager of Bexhill Leisure Centre in Down Road, said: "We are delighted to announce that between April 2008 and March 2009 we have seen the number of visits to our leisure centre increase by more than 50,000.

"We believe this to be a direct result of the expansion to our gym and improvements to the overall facilities, combined with improved levels of customer service.

"Every area of the centre is attracting greater use by the local community - from the soft play centre and junior activities aimed at our younger visitors, to the squash courts, main hall and health suite. More groups are also using our conference, function and special events' facilities.

"The biggest increases, however, are in those participating in the exercise classes and using the gym," added Paul. "By increasing the variety and diversity of our aerobics timetable and creating "gym extra", we have encouraged new members and 'pay and play' visitors '“ and they keep on coming back."

Last summer's major refurbishment project, representing an investment of 60,000, was undertaken by freedom leisure in conjunction with Rother District Council. It provided gym users with increased space and extra gym stations featuring 15 new pieces of equipment, including Summit Trainers, a Smith Machine and a Cable Cross Over Machine, along with free weights.

Sue Adamson, Rother District Council's Leisure Services Officer, commented: "We all need to incorporate more movement and exercise into our busy lives and it is great to know that Bexhill Leisure Centre is proving itself to be a well-used and much-appreciated facility for the local community."

Freedomleisure manages 15 leisure and fitness centres across Sussex, including Bexhill Leisure Pool, Rye Sports Centre and Falaise Fitness Centre, Helenswood, Hillcrest and Summerfields Leisure Centre in Hastings.
