VOLUNTEERS working for Cards for Good Causes in Midhurst gathered to say goodbye to Mary Gilbert, who has been shop manager in the town for the past eight years.

The shop has been at Capron House since Christmas 2002 and has raised nearly £110,000 under the leadership of Mrs Gilbert, selling nearly half-a-million cards.

Among those who gathered to say their farewells to Mrs Gilbert, who is moving away from the town to live closer to her daughter, was Judith O’Sullivan, regional organiser of Cards for Good Causes, who told the Observer: “Mary has been a wonderful manager.

“She has been very successful in getting together a terrific group of volunteers who have come back to help year after year.
