A27 Chichester bypass results published

The report, published by Highways England, shows that out of the five options presented, option two gained the most support by a ‘considerable margin’.

According to the results, 31 per cent of respondents voted for option two, compared to six per cent for option one A, which was the next most supported option.

The report states that option two was also ‘the most supported of the presented options from local groups, with 33 per cent of local authorities and parishes in favour of option two and 63 per cent of the local business groups consulted’.

Option one gained 4 per cent of votes, option three gained three per cent of votes and option three A gained two per cent of votes, according to Highways England.

‘No option’ received 47 per cent of votes.

In the report by Highways England, it states that 56 per cent of respondents and 50 per cent of the local authorities and parishes supported ‘a new offline bypass’.

The scheme was cancelled earlier this week following a letter from transport secretary Chris Grayling, blaming ‘the withdrawal of support by local councils for the shortlisted options and significant local campaigns’.
