THERE was a chance for everybody in the congregation to join in when St Bartholomew’s Church at Egdean held a special service.

The Family Praise service took the theme of The Beauty of Art and this gave budding artists a chance to show their work.

Several members of the congregation both young and old turned up with pieces of their work.

During the service they showed it to fellow members and explained the artwork which ranged from ceramic houses and flower paintings to giant acorns and boxing hares.

The part-time artists were then complimented with an address from a professional, Richard Whincop, who brought three of his own pieces along to the service and explained the inspiration behind those and other works.

On a beautiful morning, with the sun streaming through the stained glass it was, as Tim commented to villagers at the end of the special event, ‘an inspirational occasion’.

Many members of the congregation left with the intention of digging out that box of watercolours from a dusty drawer and creating their own masterpieces in time for the next Family Praise service.

Richard Whincop is currently exhibiting his paintings at the Moncrieff-Bray Gallery at Egdean, near Petworth.

The Summer Exhibition runs to June 22.
