Amber supporting the big clean up in time for the Queen's birthday

Clean for The Queen brings together all the anti-litter organisations from across the UK and aims to get people involved in Britain’s largest ever litter pick.

Community groups, including parish councils, residents’ associations, Girl Guides and Brownies and Scout and Cub troops are encouraged to organise their own litter pick or clean up in the coming weeks or over the Clean for The Queen weekend from March 4 - 6.

Amber said: “This is a great opportunity to make sure we get Hastings and Rye neat and tidy in time for HM The Queen’s official 90th birthday on 21 April.

Although the big litter pick will take place over 4, 5 and 6 March, people can get involved whenever they like.

“It is the support and action people are taking, and not the dates, which are important. I really hope people in Hastings and Rye will consider getting involved so together we can help mark this momentous occasion.”

“I will be hosting a Clean for the Queen event with Hastings Borough Council on Saturday March 5, from 9.30am - 1pm, starting at the Stade by the Jerwood Gallery on Hastings Seafront.

“We will be working westwards along the beach, collecting all litter. If you would like to come and join in, then please email me at [email protected].”

Local cycling groups Bexhill Wheelers, 1066 Cycle Group, Hastings Urban Bikes, Classic Cycle Group, CTC and Sustrans are also combining to clean our part of the National Cycle Network.

They are inviting people join them at 10am on Friday March 4 at Glyne Gap by the café on the beach.

A recent survey conducted by Populus found that 90 per cent of respondents consider litter to be a massive issue, with 81 per cent saying that seeing litter makes them angry and frustrated.

The Clean for The Queen event started off as a conversation between a handful of organisations, fed up with the continuing littering that affects the UK. Together, Country Life magazine, the Garfield Weston Foundation and the national charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Their aim is to get one million people engaged.
