This year, there will be a special theme, as villagers will be celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Amberley Open Gardens will take place on Sunday, in support of children’s charity Action Medical Research.

There will be 20 gardens to visit in the picturesque village, as well as lunches, teas, plant sales, a designer quilt raffle and a tombola.

Visitors will help raise money to fund vital medical research to save and change the lives of sick and disabled babies and children.

Ellie Evans, fundraising communications officer, said: “For more than 60 years, Action Medical Research has helped pioneer treatments and ways to prevent disease that have benefited millions of people in the UK and across the world.

“Research they’ve funded has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths.”

The charity is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

Entry costs £6 for adults and children under 16 are free. Tickets will be on sale on the day at The Square, Church Street, Amberley.

The gardens will be open from midday until 6pm. Assistance dogs will be allowed but not other animals.

Free parking is available in a specially-designated car park in School Road. Turn right or left off the B2139, and the car park is immediately on the right. It is only a short walk to The Square.

Visitors with limited mobility can be dropped off at The Square but there are no parking facilities there. There is no vehicle access to Church Street.

Amberley is set in the South Downs National Park, by water meadows. Village features include thatched houses and stone walls covered in wild flowers.
