Angmering nursery to be demolished for 32 new homes

CONTROVERSIAL plans to approve the final part of Angmering's '˜housing master plan' have been given the green light.

Councillors approved proposals to demolish the existing Manor Nursery garden centre, in High Street, and redevelop it into residential dwellings.

A total of 32 homes will be built, in spite of widespread opposition from villagers, Angmering Parish Council and campaign group Save Angmering.

During Arun District Council’s latest development and control meeting last Wednesday (September 24), Angmering parish councillor Norma Harris spoke in opposition to the plans.

She was concerned the land being developed was a prime site for local employment. She felt the site was ‘not sustainable’ and that the proposed drainage was ‘inadequate’.

She also had concerns about the provision of school facilities for the new residents.

However, the developer’s agent Amanda Sutton said the development was not a speculative one and that the developers were ‘sympathetic’ towards the village.

After a brief debate, councillors unanimously approved the scheme which will add to 370 homes off Roundstone Lane approved earlier this year.
