Appeal for witnesses to rape in Bognor Regis

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was raped in Bognor Regis at the weekend.

The 26-year-old victim was subjected to a prolonged assault by a man in the Sunken Gardens, Waterloo Square, at around 2am on September 3, said Sussex Police.

The man is then believed to have left the area on a pedal cycle.

Police said the woman is being supported by specially trained officers and officers are stepping up patrols in the area.

Detective Sergeant Alan Fenn said: “During Friday evening and early hours of Saturday morning it is known that there were a number people who were within the area of the gardens.

“Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed any groups of people within the gardens at that time, and especially anybody that saw a woman speaking with a group of males during that time period.”

The suspect is described as being white, aged in his 40s, 6’ 3”, of large build with a shaven head. He was wearing a red top and riding a pedal cycle.
