Arts funding boost for Brighton Digital Festival

The city's month-long digital festival has secured £79,000 funding for the next two years.

The funding is from Arts Council England’s (ACE) ‘Grants for the Arts’ programme, which supports organisations in arts-related activities.

The grant will support the festival in 2017 and 2018, and will ensure the sustainability of the festival, organisers say.

Festival director Laurence Hill said: “We’re thrilled that the Arts Council England will continue to value the festival and invest in our intention to work with communities outside of the current core audience.

“We know that the amount of public funding available continues to get smaller and we have worked hard to diversify our income stream, which ACE recognises.”

He said the funds will enable Brighton Digital Festival to ‘further evolve in its role as a champion of progressive developments in digital culture’.

Along with a private sponsorship, funding from ACE will be used to encourage the engagement of different communities, create a quality programme, and support the essential contribution of independent event organisers.

Brighton Digital Festival 2017 will take place from September 15 to October 13.

Last year it ran 196 events in the city.
