Arun and Downland gun dogs put training to the test

ENDING a summer of intense training, the Arun and Downland Gun Dog Society hold a competition to put their skills to the test.

More than 40 dogs and owners turned up and were divided into classes then judged by Lindy Higham, Jo Hawkesworth, Ted Hare, Hilly Hoar and Paula Pitman.

While the scores were being sorted, a delicious barbecue was served. So close were the marks that three tied 
for first place in the intermediate class and an extra test had to be run.

Intermediate winners were: 1 Keith Townsend, Tilly, 2 Sue Jordan, Troy, 3 Lynette Irwin, Rush; Novice: 1 Kate Heroys, Roady, 2 Di Rose, Buzz, 3 Frank Williams-Thomas, Elsa; Puppy/beginner: 1 Mike Holden, Remington who also won the cup for the most improved handler. 2 Brenda Cox, Phoebe; Spaniels: 1 Will Poole, Skeet, 2 Anne Bush, Rosie, and the cup for the most improved handler, 3 Molly Bassett, Bertie.

Winners in the veteran dog category were Wendy Neville, Tony Sanders, Sue Cole and Mary Jennings.
