Arundel businesses 'are being treated unfairly'

CLOSURES on the A27 Arundel Bridge have made allowances for the Goodwood Revival but not for local business, it has been claimed.

The bridge is to close on several weekends in September and October, but not during the weekend of the Revival, raising concerns from the Chamber of Commerce that businesses are being treated unfairly by the Highways Agency.

Clive Gardner, who has run Castle Chocolates in Tarrant Street for 20 years, said: "They make allowances for Goodwood but not for Arundel generally."

He accepted that the bridge had to be repaired but there needed to be a level playing field.

"There's no reason why one large business like Goodwood should be treated favourably when the rest of Arundel is obviously going to suffer on these weekends," he said.
