Baby remembrance service

A baby remembrance service will be held in the Chapel at Conquest Hospital on Sunday 5th November at 2.30 pm. Each year around 1700 babies are born in the Hastings and Rother area, sadly there are around 10 stillbirths and around 250-300 miscarriages each year.

Chris Cowling, Senior Midwife said, "These remembrance services are deeply moving for all those present. The remembrance service helps to meet a need and is one way to help mothers who have lost a baby either by miscarriage, stillbirth or neo natal death, cope with their great sense of personal loss."

Senior Chaplain Reverend David Jeffreys, said, "Many of those who have lost a baby experience grief for many years afterwards. This service is a way of sharing the grief with friends, relatives and those who have suffered a similar experience. At past services people have attended who have suffered this loss - not recently - but in one case over 30 years ago. It all goes to show what an enduring loss the loss of a baby can be."

For those that have lost a baby the Trust provides momentous of their baby, including photographs, foot print, hand print and a lock of hair, plus clothes to dress the baby.

The service, which includes an act of remembrance and the lighting of candles, provides an occasion when all those affected by the loss of a baby can acknowledge their loss and move on in their grief.

It is designed as a quiet, reflective and supportive occasion and all are most welcome to attend.

The service will be conducted by the newly appointed Chaplain the Revd Clive Woodward and Assistant Chaplain Joy Davenport and will also be attended by staff from Women's and Children's Services.
