Bad weather reduces donations at Bognor Illuminations Gala

Bad weather has been blamed for a drop in donations at Sunday's illuminations gala parade along Bognor Regis seafront.

The total collection by the volunteers towards the lights was 713.07.

Seafront lights secretary Greg Burt said: "The total collected is somewhat lower than usual, due to the greatly reduced crowd because of the uninviting weather."

The strong wind also led to the firework display from the pier, after the parade, being curtailed. The usual extravaganza of noise and sound was reduced for safety reasons.

"This is to be regretted and of course we are as disappointed as the crowds," added Mr Burt.

"However, many will remember that many years ago a firework did land in the crowd at this event, so the safety of the public has to take priority."
