Barnham MP meets with public

An open meeting is being held in Barnham by the village's MP.

Nick Herbert is hosting the June 6 session to enable residents of the area to raise issues of concern with him.

The informal meeting, the first of a series, will be non-party political and open to everyone. Mr Herbert will say a few words of introduction before audience members can comment on any issue they like.

The meeting will start at 1.30pm in the parish hall in Yapton Road. The discussion will be chaired by Cllr Mike Young, the chairman of Barnham Parish Council, and the panel will include district and county councillors Jean Goad, Melissa Briggs and Derek Whittington.

The meeting will be followed by a private surgery for constituents who want to raise personal matters.

Mr Herbert said: "I inherited an arrangement where the MP's surgeries were all held in Steyning, which meant most people having to travel a long way in this large constituency.

"I want to make it easier for local people to raise issues with me without having to come so far. So, the plan is to rotate the Friday surgeries around major villages in my constituency.
