Dozens of vintage aircraft will carry out commemorative flypasts today to mark the 75th anniversary of the historic battle.

The first flight was set to depart at midday with four minute intervals separating each subsequent departure. However this will now happen from 2pm.

A Goodwood spokesman said the decision to put the take-off back two hours to 2pm was to enable the thousands of people trying to get to the site to watch time to get in place.

He said wet weather had affected car parks and it was taking longer to get spectators’ vehicles into the venue. But the message to people on their way was: Don’t panic - there’s nothing happening til 2pm.

The Boultbee Flight Academy warned that possible mechanical, weather or other operational issues could affect departure times as well as the routes flown.
