Beetle drive at Christchurch

THE sound of dice rattling filled Christchurch Methodist Church Hall on Saturday afternoon as dozens of people took part in a beetle drive.

Positioned on one of several tables, individual participants rolled the dice to try and create parts of a drawn 'beetle' by matching up the numbers to the correct creepy crawly appendage.

Refreshments were taken at half-time in Centenary House next door to the church.

Town Mayor Cllr Paul Lendon was guest of honour at the event.

Barry Turnwell played referee, compere and organiser.

He said: "it is amazing the number of people who actually hadn't played beetle before. It is great so many people are taking part.

"The game doesn't discriminate; the young people can be just as good as someone who is much older. It is all about the speed you get the dice out.

"It is a very social game too. You get to move from table to table and meet different people."

485 was raised for Cllr Lendon's mayoral charity, Hastings and Rother Crossroads.
