Bexhill College A Levels hit the heights

THERE were tears of joy and a few of disappointment as hundreds of 18-year-olds received their A Level results at Bexhill College.

Early indications show it could be another year of record results at the college with an overall A Level pass rate of 94.84 per cent. The national pass rate is 95.4 per cent.

Principal Karen Hucker was delighted with a 100 per cent pass rate in 24 subjects. Of 736 entries in all, 67 per cent of grades were C and above.

Tied together with a 100 per cent pass rate in Advanced Certificate in Vocational Education (AVCE) courses, the equivalent to two A Levels, and BTEC National Diploma grades, Mrs Hucker thinks results have certainly improved on last year.

She said: "We haven't been able to calculate the overall picture yet but the forecasts are looking good. Students and staff should be very proud of their achievements."

Students were glued to their mobile phones breaking the news to parents yesterday or frantically phoning universities to check they had been accepted.

Most were elated but a few just fell short and were phoning other universities trying to find alternative places through the 'clearing' system.

He got an incredible four A-grades in maths, further maths, physics and computing. He is bound for York University to study computing.

Serena Langley was another success story, getting an A in English and Bs in art and media. She is taking a gap year and then hopes to study advertising.
