Bexhill in Bloom launch

INNOVATIVE dance routines and a talk for the green fingered were among the highlights of this year's Bexhil in Bloom.

The event, held at the Grovesnor Park nursing home, marks the start of Bexhill's efforts to brighten the summer with floral displays.

Individuals and businesses will have their plants judged as part of the town awards later this year.

Later this summer, Bexhill will be judged for South East in Bloom '“ this year the town has been entered as a coastal resort.

Guests at the launch enjoyed dancing by Bexhill Danceworks. Youngsters performed, 'The Wind in the Willows' and Hastings Festival prize-winning routines, 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' and 'Black Orchid.'

'Green Fingered Fred' from ESK Eastbourne gave an informative talk on the subject of grafting willows.

The East Sussex County Council 'Compost Doctor' passed on hints on recycling waste material.

Town Mayor Cllr Paul Lendon said: "I think Bexhill in Bloom is a wonderful initiative and a great way of brightening up the town and giving people an incentive to make their gardens look nice.

"I am very much hoping that many of you will take part in it. I think it is a special initiative because the motto of Bexhill is, 'sun and health' and Bexhill in Bloom is a part of that."

Guests were reminded by Bexhill in Bloom chairman Sandra Melvin, this year's youth competition would be to make a sensory garden '“ based on sound, touch, smell and taste.

Deputy chairman of Rother, Cllr Joanne Gadd, gave the closing speech.
