Bexhill Lions Triathlon

FOLLOWING in the footsteps of Bexhill's first ever triathlon last weekend, Bexhill Lions club have announced that they are also planning another "first" with a Lions Triathlon in the spring of 2010.

Speaking on behalf of the club, Bexhill Lions Triathlon Race Director David Burstow said triathlons are an increasingly popular sporting activity, and he believes Bexhill is the perfect location to hold such an event:

"Triathlon is the fastest growing sport in the United Kingdom, the audience is affluent, healthy , lifestyle conscious, aged twenty five to forty five and half the people taking part in triathlons each year are new to the sport.

"Bexhill-On-Sea offers the perfect conditions for a picturesque triathlon event with the Lions Triathlon course including an open sea swim, flat seaside roads for the cycle, and the promenade for the run.

"There will be a standard chip-timed sprint distance triathlon, with shorter distances provided for younger triathletes and where possible it will be an inclusive event for those with special needs."

David said they are expecting hundreds of competitors to enter the event and have already received over a dozen entries, adding:

"The Bexhill Lions Triathlon will be held on Sunday 23rd May 2010 and, with very little undulation, promises to be a fast one - a great way for triathletes to start the season."

All profits from the event will be donated to Sussex Air Ambulance, St Michaels Hospice, and other Lions Club Charities. Many local clubs, organisations, colleges and schools, together with the British Triathlon Federation are supporting the event and local companies eager to support the Lions Triathlon can find sponsorship details on the website.

David said: "Together we can raise the profile of Bexhill-on-Sea, local businesses, and the sport of triathlon.
