Bid for children's centre

It is expected that the centre would be set up at the YMCA building in Westgate Street.

The project is a Sure Start initiative, which aims at providing support and assistance for young children and their parents nationwide.

The Lewes centre would offer a wide range of services, from health advice (including ante and post natal support, mental health, hygiene, breastfeeding and nutritional information) to speech therapy, help in stopping smoking and finding employment.

The Children Centre would focus on hard-to-reach parents who are in particular need of help (for example young single mothers and fathers) and would provide support for children's special educational needs.
