A proposal to extend the hours of opening at Petworth’s Leconfield Restaurant brought townspeople out in force to the town council’s planning committee.
Chairman Neville Fox told a full meeting: “The committee was outnumbered three to one by people who came to listen to our discussion on the Leconfield proposal.”
He said many of them had complained the restaurant did not stick to the current conditions governing its hours of opening.
Mr Fox said the committee felt the fact the restaurant was not adhering to current conditions was not a sufficient reason for planning members to object to the new proposal.
But he added: “We looked at it in terms of its effect on the neighbourhood and we felt that was certainly a point on which we needed to object.”
He said the planning committee had asked the district council to ensure the restaurant adhered to current opening hours.
