Big events planned for Toby campaign

The aim is to raise £40,000 for Toby Booker, seven, of Havelock Road, Bognor Regis, to have a life-changing operation and follow-up treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Toby, a keen Beaver at 1st Barnham Scout Group, has spent the last week with his family at Scout camp, as his dad, Ian Booker, is a Scout leader at 2nd Worthing.

The active youngster can walk short distances but as he grows, he will be confined to a wheelchair without the selective dorsal rhizotomy.

Mum Jess Booker, a teacher at Funtingdon Primary School, said: “We had a super week at camp. There was also a crazy golf fundraising event on Sunday, which was a great success and made over £600.

“Stepping Stones, Toby’s old nursery, where his brother Harry now goes, has raised £1,000 from their end of term party, raffle, sunflower selling and very kind donations.

“Tickets are selling fast for the Viaduct Relief Road Walk and the West Side Story concert, both on September 13.

“Planning is also well underway for the family fun day at my school on September 19. All my lovely mummies have been working so hard to make it a really special and fun day.”

Tickets for the Viaduct Relief Road Walk, organised by Liz Lawrence, are now on sale at the Bognor Regis Observer office, in Place St Maur, Belmont Street, next to The Regis Centre in Bognor Regis. Payment is by cash or cheque only, with cheques made payable to Toby Booker SDR.

The event is on September 13, from 10am to 4pm, and tickets cost £5 each.

Liz said: “Barratt David Wilson Homes, which has financed the construction of the new relief road, are kindly allowing Toby and his supporters to be the first to walk across the new viaduct. Come and be a part of this long-awaited experience and see the amazing views of surrounding countryside.”
