A TEAM of dedicated fundraisers in Billingshurst raised a staggering £54,396 for the Midhurst Macmillan specialist palliative care service last year.
The Billingshurst Macmillan support group found fun ways to encourage people to donate, from cake bakes to cinema nights.
Led by the indefatigable Jenny Kern, the group has been fundraising directly for Midhurst Macmillan since 1996.
Based at Midhurst Community Hospital, the service supports patients requiring palliative or end-of-life care to have a good quality of life in their preferred place of care, until the end of their life.
Jenny said: “The generosity of people is really quite overwhelming. The donations and support we received in 2014, just as in previous years, has been nothing short of inspiring.
“It has meant we have been able to raise an incredible sum for the charity, whose invaluable work helps provide patients and families with the best quality of life during the most challenging of times.”
Stephanie Georgalakis, Macmillan fundraising manager for Sussex, said: “Jenny and the group are second to none.
“Their strong presence means that not only is their fundraising hugely successful, but they are often the first point of contact for people enquiring about Macmillan services.
“What makes this group different is their ability to find unique fundraising opportunities – often joining forces with businesses to inspire the community to donate to the fantastic service.
“Macmillan wants to make sure no-one faces cancer alone and it’s the amazing work of Billingshurst Macmillan support group that will help us make this reality.”
