Bra-vo as Bognor duo set to march for charity

Two Bognor Regis women are preparing to stride through London in their bras.

Barbara Tate and Janet Jones will be joining thousands of other women in this year's Moonwalk.

They will complete a 26.2 mile marathon course around the capital from midnight on May 17 to raise money in the fight against breast cancer.

To help their cause they organised a pink party in the pub on Saturday at the Friary Arms in Shripney Road in which everyone was required to dress in pink, or pay a forfeit.

It will be Barbara's first time in the Moonwalk. She said: "Everybody either has a friend or someone in their family who either has or has had breast cancer.

"This is my little bit to help the situation."

Barbara (44), of Ivy Crescent, took up walking at the end of last year to build on her success in quitting smoking during 2007.

"I never used to walk even when I went to Tesco and that is just the other side of the road," she said.

"Now, I think about what I am doing before I get in my car. I just thought life was too valuable to carry on the way I was. I've lost friends who have died from cancer and other causes, like heart attacks," she explained.

She and Janet have built up their walking to 12 miles a week around the Bognor area.

Their next challenge is to make the return journey to Chichester. The next stop is Southbourne and back.

But their training has to be fitted around their work at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital.

Barbara is a nursing auxiliary there and Janet, who completed the Moonwalk a few years ago, is a staff nurse.
