BREAKING NEWS: Hundreds arrive for Don Lock’s funeral

HUNDREDS of people have gathered outside Worthing Crematorium for Don Lock’s funeral today (August 12).

About 800 people were outside to pay their final respects to the 79-year-old who was stabbed to death four weeks ago.

As his casket was carried into the crematorium, a guard of honour made up of cyclists raised the front wheels of their bikes to form a ceremonial archway.

Funeral director Ian Hart said it was a perfect send-off: “I’ve known the family since the 1970s and the day was a fitting tribute for a man who was clearly well loved and respected by many people.”

Mr Hart added his thanks to Worthing Borough Council for its help, including installing 600 bike racks at the crematorium.

The funeral service was conducted by Father Ben Eadon.

Tributes were read out by Don’s wife Maureen, his children Sandra and Andrew and some of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Adrian Palmer from the Worthing Excelsior Cycling Club also read a tribute.

The service included a selection of music that was all significant to Don and his family. The entrance music was Sailing by Rod Stewart and during the service, mourners sang All Things Bright and Beautiful and Morning has Broken.

True Love by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly played as a photo tribute was shown and as people left, My Heart Will go On by Celine Dion was played followed by Sussex by the Sea by the Band of HM RAF.

Those who attended the funeral were asked to complete a memory card and share their memories of Don.

Family, friends and members of Worthing Excelsior went on to Long Furlong Barn, Clapham, after the service.
