BREAKING NEWS: Massive rescue operation in force on the River Arun

A MASSIVE rescue operation has been mounted, after a man fell from Littlehampton swing bridge.

A spokesman for Solent Coastguard said the man fell just before 7pm this evening,(Wednesday, May 6) and had been winched out of the water by a coastguard helicopter

"At the moment," he said, "we do not know how or why he fell.

"We do know that two people went in after him, and since got out of the water."

Coastguards, lifeboats and the police helicopter were involved in the operation, and police have closed off the bridge.
