Brent Lodge takes over Bing website

Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital is taking over Bing’s daily UK homepage for the day - and it will feature an image that celebrates the charity, as well as providing in-depth information about the valuable work it does in the treatment, rehabilitation and release of injured wild birds and mammals.

Brent Lodge was nominated by the British public as part of Bing’s ongoing Help Your Britain campaign, which aims to encourage the public to do more for charitable causes.

Dennis Fentner MBE, founder of Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Bing. It gives us the opportunity to tell more people about or vital work in helping wildlife in our part of southern England.

“Every week we have a wide variety of bird species and mammals arrive at our hospital and we can only carry on what we are doing with the support of the public, both in terms of donations and volunteering.”

Peter Maxmin from Bing says: “The work that Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital does is amazing. They don’t just provide a safe environment for injured wildlife to receive treatment and recover from injury; they also work with schools and other organisiations to educate about the risks and dangers faced by our wildlife and to spread knowledge in the surrounding community. Like many charities, this is sadly made more difficult by limited funding, which is why we’re delighted to be showcasing the charity as part of Bing’s Help Your Britain campaign.”

The Sidlesham-based rescue centre’s dedicated team of experts treat more than 3,000 sick, orphaned and injured wildlife casualties every year. About 2,500 are birds, with the rest being mainly hedgehogs, as well as a few deer, badgers and small mammals.

The dedicated team at Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital has attracted a number of supporters over the years, including some household names. Among these is Springwatch presenter and naturalist Chris Packham, who said: “I’ve known Brent Lodge for a number of years, and seen first-hand the work they do to provide practical help and care for birds and animals in need. They are not about saving the planet, or saving declining species, but about giving individual birds and animals a second chance ... without Brent Lodge those individuals would stand no chance.”

Alan Titchmarsh, TV gardening presenter, journalist and author also expressed his support: “I’m a huge admirer of the vital work it does in rescuing wildlife in distress. This is not a large and unwieldy organisation, but a small, efficient and practical team which achieves amazing results. They deserve all the support we can give them.”
