Brighter Christmas on the cards in Midhurst

A brighter Christmas is on the cards in Midhurst after a joint venture by the town council and the Town Team has resulted in a complete revamp of the festive lights.

At a meeting of the town council’s community and environment committee last night (Monday, June 27), members heard that contracts have finally been signed to replace the festive lights in North Street and restring the stag and the Christmas Tree at the northern entrance to the town in front of the bus terminal.

Funds were set aside in the town council’s budget for the project and the cost is just under £13,000.

In addition the Town Team is funding further lights in West Street and permission is currently being negotiated to hang these outside shops.

The Town Team also has separate plans to add lights in Church Hill.

The project is a result of an approach to the town council last November by traders through the Town Team.

Plans to hold a public switch on event are being drawn up for next year’s Christmas street party, organised by the town council. But there will not be a switch on ceremony this Christmas.
