WHEN Bryn Richardson decided it was time to retire at the age of 79, he was given a right royal send-off by proprietors Geoff Pocock and his son Roger at Lavant Workwear in Midhurst.
They arranged for Bryn to be picked up from his Chichester home in a chauffeur-driven BMW. He was presented with a specially-decorated retirement cake on arrival at work and was driven home again at the end of the day in the BMW.
“I have enjoyed my 20 years here,” said Bryn. “It will be a wrench and I will be popping in from time to time, but I have worked since 1947 when I left school at 14 and I think I have worked enough now.”
Bryn, who has been married to Myra for 53 years, began his working life in Cardiff where the couple brought up their three daughters. They moved to Chichester in 1992 to be closer to two of their daughters who had moved to Lavant and Stedham.
Bryn began as a salesman for Lavant Workwear the same year, when it was based at the Chichester Butter Market.
Later the business moved to St Martins Street and in l997 it moved to Midhurst.
