A number of properties were burgled in Downview Road, Elm Grove and Barnham Road with a range of jewellery and electrical items being stolen.

Speaking to the Gazette today, PCSO Michelle Davies said: “If you are going away, consider arranging for a trusted neighbour to regularly check the vacant premises.

“Tell as few people as possible that your premises will be empty. Do not discuss the holiday in shops, pubs and so on – you do not know who is listening.

“If you have an alarm, for which there is a keyholder record, ensure the record is kept updated.”

Police are now seeking for anyone with any information about the break-ins to contact them by calling 101 and quoting serial 0840 of 16/06/14.

The force has also issued further advice to homeowners on the best way to secure their properties.

PCSO Davies added: “The enemy of the average house burglar is time and noise. Most burglars can be defeated by reasonable physical security.”

She is urging residents to fit a five-lever mortice deadlock to both front and back doors with slide bolts at both top and bottom.

For those with French windows and patio doors, a security mortice bolt needs to be fitted which may require a specialist.

Integral garage doors should also be fitted with a five-lever mortice lock and two mortice bolts.
