The Lodsworth Larder has received a £2,000 cash prize and 50,000 Nectar points after being awarded the ‘contribution to the community’ award in the nationwide Nectar Business Small Business Awards 2011.
Short-listed from hundreds of entries, the shop was voted the most deserving business in a public vote.
It sells a range of local produce and has saved the community more than 127,000 miles of car travel to the nearest towns.
Run by Nectar Business, the awards were started in 2009 to recognise the cream of Britain’s small business talent.
Commenting on the award, Martin Lester, chairman of Lodsworth Larder, said: “Winning means so much to everyone involved.
“We’re over the moon.
“The prize money and Nectar points will help us carry out some much-needed redesign of the shop and will get our plans for home delivery off the ground, too.”
James Frost, marketing director at Nectar, said: “We feel it’s really important to reward small businesses and social enterprises that give back to society.
“Lodsworth Larder is a fantastic not-for-profit business, and a very worthy winner of this year’s Contribution to the Community Award.
“The services it offers and its eco credentials have clearly resonated with the public. We wish them the very best of luck as they continue with their venture.”
