DISENFRANCHISED voters in Midhurst will finally be given the opportunity to elect a new councillor to represent them at West Sussex County Council.
A by-election has been called for Thursday, November 15, which is the same day as elections for the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner.
The resignation of Nola Hendon, the former conservative councillor for the division, has prompted the move. She joined the county council in 2005.
Her formal resignation follows her move to Menorca last July, which meant other councillors from neighbouring divisions had been trying to cover the Midhurst area.
Nominations for the vacancy will close at noon on Friday October 19, and a list of candidates will be published on Tuesday October 23, 2012.
Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate can submit their request to the deputy county returning officer.
Nomination documents can be picked up from Chichester District Council’s elections office at East Pallant House, or you can call 01243 521010 or email email@example.com to have them sent to you.
The elected councillor will serve in the position until the scheduled elections next May.
The announcement of the by-election follows an outcry last week after voters claimed they had been abandoned.
