Cannabis plants found in Bognor Regis

Police responding to a report of meat being stolen from the Co-op store in Nyetimber Lane, Bognor Regis, uncovered more than they anticipated when they found the suspect and 40 cannabis plants

A 27-year-old local man was arrested in nearby Gossamer Lane on Sunday, January 16. Whilst searching a house for the stolen property, officers uncovered the cannabis factory. The arrested man has been released on police bail until April 16.

Cannabis growing within the UK, rather than abroad, has soared in recent years.

Sergeant Danny West from Bognor police said: “Cannabis can produce large profits for growers who are frequently part of criminal gangs. Outbuildings or rooms within houses or flats can be converted at virtually any location.

“Although we successfully locate some of these, we rely on the public to be alert and report any suspicious activity to us.”

Things to look out for are: Strong, pungent or unusual herbal smells; lighting, heating equipment and venting pipes being moved in; indows covered up possibly with condensation visible; people coming and going at odd hours; and compost, fertiliser and plant pots being evident in large quantities.
