CAR accident causes A259 chaos

THE A259 at Rustington had to be closed on Sunday morning (0ctober 12) due to a collision involving two cars.

The accident happened at 11.35am on the westbound carriageway of the A259 near Rustington, close to the Shell petrol garage.

An elderly woman driving a Kia Rio went into the back of an Isuzu car.

The woman needed to be cut free from her car by firefighters, before being taken to Worthing Hospital with back pain.

Police were forced to close a section of the A259 while the woman was being freed, causing long tailbacks.

Sergeant Rob Bowden, of Littlehampton police, said: "The road closure caused quite a lot of mayhem."
