Car crashes into Chichester canal

A car has crashed into Chichester canal this evening (Sunday January 26).

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to South Bank at 5.48pm this evening after a white car crashed into the canal.

A woman was found at the scene but was not in the car when the fire service arrived, according to sources.

Two fire engines and multiple police cars also attended.

It is understood the woman was taken to hospital.

Emergency service staff at the scene said the car would be recovered today.

The rear of the car appears damaged and some personal effects have been left on the canal bank.
